As a innovative and high technology, the Electric Power Steering (E PS)represents thedevelopment trend of automotive power steering, and meet the goal of modern automobiledevelopment direction, which is safety comfortable energy-saving and environmentalprotection. It can improve handling stability and driving safety of the vehicle in the process ofoperation effectively, which has important practical value and significance to improve thevehicle steering performance and optimize the driver’s steering feel.The commercial vehicle equipped EPS is the research object of this paper, a mediumtruck with a capacity of4ton is selected as the research models. According to thecharacteristics of the models, the thesis choose the key components of EPS, then design andanalyze the commercial vehicle steering shaft power EPS system with recirculating-ball.Based on the multi-body dynamics technology, the thesis study the topology structure of thevehicle and establish the multi-body dynamics model for the research models. The thesisstudy and design the curve type assist characteristic and multi-mode control strategy, andbuild the EPS control system model, then get the commercial vehicle equipped EPSmechatronics virtual prototype by joint simulation method. This paper analyze the transientresponse, steering efforts and returnability for the commercial vehicle by open loop testsimulation, and comparative analyze the vehicle handling stability before and after the vehicleequipped EPS, get a conclusion that the equipping EPS system can improve the transient andsteady state performance of the vehicle, improve the low speed steering portability at the sametime. The thesis research the steering feel objective evaluation methods of the commercialvehicle equipped EPS, base on people-car integrated system, conduct central steering and lanechange steering feel test respectively, then decide the objective evaluation index to evaluatethe steering feel for the virtual prototype, which reveal that the EPS system not only canenhance the central steering and lane change steering performance, but also optimize thedriver’s steering feel. And then, the paper researches the influence of the different parameterson central steering feeling of the commercial vehicle.
