Most harbor breakwaters are of rubble-mound structure filled with plenty of stones.Because a large amounts of stones would be easily washed away by sea waves duringthe construction, usually a breakwater project costs dozens or even millions of gradedstones. In order to reduce the cost, stones usually are replaced by geotextile tube bagfilled with sand for the breakwater construction. This paper is about a thermal powerproject, where geotextile tube bags filled with sand are used in the Indonesia’s first largescale harbor breakwater project adopting inland excavation method. Without longbreakwater connected to the mainland by bridge, the engineering and cost could bereduced a lot.Meteorological data and ocean hydrology surveying data are obtained bymeteorological data colletion and fields wave, current and sediment analysis. In presentstudy, basic design, improvement design and final design are proposed according tocontract requirement and site situations. There are four design schemes and twoproposed schemes for the basic design, which will be all exposed in this study withrelative layouts.Flow field and temperature characteristics are obtained based on the data of tide,current and water temperature near the project. Flow fields of characteristic tides arefuther studied with two dimension tidal numerical model based on validation ofmeasured data. All flow field allocations have been calculated with the verified currentnumerical model. The velocity and direction in the channel, breakwater entrance andquay apron are further analyzed to know the flow field change at characteristic pointscaused by project execution. Thermal discharge numerical model was built based ontidal model to analyze and calculate thermal discharge of the thermal power plant. Theplane layout was optimized according to the computed temperature rise allocations, themaximum temperature rise value, the temperature rise enveloping graph are area atdifferent characteristic time.With wave numerical model, wave characteristics at different time are collectedand analyzed, and design waves at different locations in the harbor area are calculated.Stability condition test in the inner harbor is conducted and analised, and finally optimization methos according to all intermediate results are offered.
