A Framework Of Post Occupancy Evaluation Of Contemporary Theater Building In China

At present, theaters are not only abundantly constructed in major cities, but alsoboomingly occurred in small and medium-sized cities in China. However, due to itscomplex functions and various users, the theater building often encounters kinds ofproblems in construction and operation. Because of the absence of a post occupancyevaluation method, these problems often have been ignored, which may cause manyeconomic losses andresources waste. Thus, the post occupancy evaluation method needsto be considered seriously.This article aims at setting up a framework on the post occupancy evaluation ofcontemporary theater building to find out and solve the existing problems in theaterbuilding.By investigating domestic typical theaters, usage information of different theatershas been obtained at first-hand, then, the evaluation points have been refined on thebasis of the information. Further, more evaluation points are obtained by investigatingmore theater buildings, and a preliminary evaluation framework has been set up. Finally,a complete post occupancy evaluation framework of theater building is set up bycarrying out three cycles of “theater Investigation–evaluation points Summary–reviseevaluation system”.This evaluation framework will positively improve the construction of theaterbuildings. It could be used on evaluating existing theater building, providing guidancefor people to solve related problems, it also can provide suggestions for theater buildingdesign and construction procedures.
