| The formation, development and evolution of cities depend on transportation; urban development promotes transportation development. Traffic development and urban evolution influence each other, rise and fall together, which are inseparable organic whole. The urban transportation system is one of the major components of the urban system, and public transportation is the main part of the urban transportation system. With the constant acceleration of the process of urbanization, increasingly frequent economic activities, rapid population growth and the expansion of cities demand higher requirements on public transportation. The development of public transportation is directly related to the efficiency of urban development and the improvement of people’s living standards.Lanzhou City, a typical ribbon valley city, whose terrain feature of "one river sandwiched between northern and southern mountains" makes its transportation problems typical and representative. The transportation problems have been one of the major factors restricting the development of Lanzhou City; therefore, the present study on the development of urban transportation in Lanzhou City, especially on public transportation and urban acceleration development, is particularly important. In this thesis, the author does researches from two aspects, namely spatial distribution of urban public transportation and accessibility of public transportation:In regard to the spatial distribution of urban public transportation, the author firstly introduced the course of development of public transportation in Lanzhou City, followed by the discussion on the problems faced in the development of transportation like urban road network structure, vehicle ownership, across-river transportation and municipal engineering and so forth; and then further analyzed and evaluated the status quo of the public transportation development of Lanzhou City by selecting spatial distribution indicators, namely the line length, the non-linear coefficient, the site average station distance, the line network density and site coverage indicators, from the index system of urban public transportation system,. After that the author found such problems existent in public transportation network as long bus lines, large non-linear coefficient, small average distance between two sites, different line density, unbalanced distribution of terminals and low bus station coverage. With respect to accessibility of public transportation, the author, with the help of ArcGIS software, analyzed and evaluated the accessibility of80bus terminals on both northern and southern sides of the Yellow River and the railway through spatial separation model from such three angles as distance, time and cost; as a result, a comprehensive distribution law was got by adding up lines. The results show that the space-time and cost of each terminal can be presented by decreasing distribution from the ribbon geometric center to the east and west sides; the east higher than the west. Among them, the accessibility of Xiaoxihu Station, Xiguanshizi Station and Lanzhou West Railway Station ranks up to the top three, while that of A’ganzhen station, Xincheng Station and Liuquan township government station stand in the last three. On this basis of what has been mentioned above, several strategies, like optimizing the network structure, developing large-capacity public transportation, rationally planning sites, actively developing water transportation, and constantly improving the level of management and so on, were put forward by the author in order to improve the status quo of urban public transportation space distribution, increase the accessibility of urban public transportation, provide decision-making references for the sustainable, healthy and coordinated development of urban transportation of Lanzhou City. |
