In21st century, manufacturing must win the market with product innovation andtechnological innovation. Whether the enterprise can make rapid response and design theproduct according to the user’s current needs and potential demand, it will become the keyof enterprise’s success or failure. When comes to the development and manufacturing fordifferent products, any enterprise will not put the original product negate, and design ormanufacture it again. Many cases are based on the products’ original structure, byexchanging one or more modules to realize the production of new product. On thisbackground and combining with the actual needs and related research project of theenterprise product design, researching on configuration design for hydraulic excavator,which is based on modularity technology, is put forward. Not only it can fully utilizeexisting resources and realize resource sustainable, but also can make quick response tothe market, so as to win the market.This paper studies modularization technique which is applied to hydraulic excavatorstructure design for module classification and module management.Base on this,there isfurther study about how to realize configuration design of hydraulic excavator based onmodular. Researching contents and innovative achievements of this thesis as follows:(1) First, we define the configurable product and analyze its characteristics. Thiswork can avoid the blindness for studying. It will make clear the configurable object,which bring for the study more pertinence and maneuverability. Giving the configurationdesign framework for product and making clearly about the main process of theconfiguration design. Then, introducing the characteristics of modular design and its effectfor the configuration design. At last, it works out configuration design process for productbased on modular, which provides theoretical guidance on modular configuration designfor hydraulic excavator.(2) The design features, structure and performance parameters of hydraulic excavatorare analyzed. Then plan division level for hydraulic excavator after analyzing anddecomposing its functions and constructing the function structure tree. Multi-level moduleclassification method is used for module classification researching. Finally hydraulicexcavator multi-level module classification result is made. These are ready for hydraulicexcavator configuration design.(3) It introduces configuration design managing information, such as hydraulicexcavator examples, related function modules. We study the situation of managementfrom various information. It can be ready for the subsequent product modularconfiguration design and simplify the bom.(4) It makes customer needs analysis and integration through the market research. Wecustomize the demand decomposition principle to dispose customer needs. Thenreferencing the core content of quality function deployment method——House Of Quality(HOQ) transforms the decomposed customer demand units into many kinds ofdetailed information, which is needed in product configuration design process. Ultimately,configuration requirements and design specification of the hydraulic excavator areobtained. We can finish the concrete and detailed configuration design reasoning afterdescribing its main structure’s modules file management and configuration rules betweenthem in detail, which ultimately obtains the design products met the customers’ needs.
