H-shaped steel is widely used as structure beams, columns and other major load-bearing components in large span and high-rise buildings. It is inevitable to encounter a variety of accidental impact, during their service in the structure. Especially in heavy industry plant, the collision of lifting crane and vehicle to the steel beams and columns is common. Impact loads may cause local damage of the structure and seriously cause overall collapse, and even cause heavy casualties and property losses. Therefore, it is of great significance for carrying the studies on the basic mechanical properties and its residual strength of the H-shaped steel members under impact loads to the protection of structural safety and the identification of the residual strength of the structure under impact. In this paper, the plastic dynamic response process of the H-shaped steel beams and columns under lateral impact loads are researched by experiments and theory, and residual strength of the members after impact was studied. The main contents are as follows.1. The mechanical properties of12H-shaped steel columns were conducted experimental study by using drop hammer impact test machine DHR9401under the lateral impact loads. The effect of boundary conditions and impact energy on their dynamic response was observed. In the test, impact force-time history curves and residual deformation patterns were recorded.2. Residual strength test of the specimens after impact was completed by use of500tYAW-5000-based computer controlled servo pressure machine. In the test, damage state of steel columns was observed, the axial load, lateral displacement of mid-span and axial displacement values were recorded.3. ABAQUS finite element software was used to establish the analytical model of dynamic response process of the H-shaped steel members under lateral impact and axial residual strength after lateral impact. The calculated data and the present experimental results such as impact force-time history curves, axial load, mid-span displacement and residual deformation form were compared to verify the correctness of the finite element analysis model.4. The FEA model in this paper was used to analyze dynamic response process of the H-shaped steel members under lateral impact and axial residual strength after lateral impact. Failure morphological which could not be observed and the development of stress and strain of the member section were analyzed and the relationship of residual strength reduction coefficient of damaged specimens after impact and local deformation was obtained by parameter analysis.
