| River embankment plays a significant role in our country’s flood control system. It’sthe special tough barrier in defending flood. The construction quality of embankmentmatters much with state property and the people’s safety. This paper is supported by theembankment project on the right bank of Weihe River from Shuyuan to Chishui River inWeinan City. It’s an important part in the project of Weihe River improvement. The soilused through the whole line of this project is low liquid limit clay. Low liquid limit clay hasthe properties such as low liquid limit, low plastic index, bad soil mass stability and highconstruction difficulty. But in China, land resources are relatively deficient. So if leave lowliquid limit clay aside by using other distinct soil, construction investment will increase a lot.Under such background, how to use and compact low liquid limit clay has importantpractical significance.This paper depends on the laboratory experiment to measure the basic property of soiland confirm compacting criteria by compaction test. And field test is conducted inconstruction field’s typical sections. After this, data recorded in field test are analyzed todetermine the final scheme of machine combinations, thickness of spread soil and rollingspeed of machines.By experiment research, conclusions are drawled as follows.(1) Soil court of every section has the problem that natural moisture contents areirregular. It may make finding the optimal moisture contend in RCC construction difficult.So making fully use of mixing effect in the process of digging-loading-unloading is needed.And contractors should water or dry the soil at the proper time so that the moisture contendscan get approach to the optimal moisture contend.(2) The optimal moisture contends of every section are17.5%-18.0%. The maximumdry densities are1.62g/cm3-1.69g/cm3.And the liquid-plastic limits are29.83%-31.50%and17.50%-18.40%. The plastic indexes are11.87-13.10. Soil used in this project isdetermined to be the low liquid limit clay according to the classification standard. Low liquid limit and plastic index in every section puts forward higher request for compactiontechnology.(3) For the embankment project on the right bank of Weihe River from Shuyuan toChishui River in Weinan City, when thickness of uncompacted layer is50cm and makevibration rolling6times with preloading2times under the speed of2.55km/h, thecompaction quality and construction efficiency can be satisfied.(4) In addition, moisture content of soil has a close relationship with the degree ofcompaction. When the soil has proper moisture contend, friction between the soil particlescan be reduced effectively through the water lubrication. It can make soil compacting easier.When the soil moisture content of the embankment project on the right bank of Weihe Riverfrom Shuyuan to Chishui River in Weinan City exceeds the optimum moisture contend by0.5%-1%, the compaction effect is the most obvious. |
