The Protection And Project And Design Research On City Wetland Gardens

Wetland is one of the most important environmental properties for our human beings.The wetlands ecosystem, plus forest ecosystem and ocean ecosystem, are the three majorecosystems of the earth. The wetlands ecosystem has been known as “the cradle of life”,“thekidney of the earth”,“the filter of the ocean” and “the gene pool of species”, which is ofvarious functions and value. It plays an important role in supplying water resources, storingfloodwater for use in a drought, adjusting climate, controlling the land erosion, cumulating siltinto land, degrading environmental pollution, protecting biodiversity, maintain a regionalecological equilibrium and so on. Although the wet land is so important for us, the currentsituation of the wetlands ecological system is worrying. It has been the most threatenedecosystem on our planet. A lot of wet lands are in a process of degeneration anddisappearance, which has raised a direct threat to our survival and development.Recently, as the city landscape gardens have extended and developed from theory to thepractical application, city wet land’s role of adjusting climate and improving livingenvironment become more valuable. Nowadays, numerous cities in china have established anarray of wet land gardens in accordance with their own situations. These gardens, for theirfunction of bringing joy both physically and psychologically to the citizens, have become thebest destination for people’s relaxation. The design for the city wet landscape is not only acompletion of the ecosystem, but also a testimony of the harmonious co-existence betweenhuman and the nature. We should respect, comply with and protect the environment when itcomes to maintain the ecological equilibrium, improve the ecotope and enhance theharmonious co-existence between human and the nature. Thus, it has become an imperative toprotect wetlands resources. The ecological planning of the city wet landscape is not just acompletion of wetlands ecosystem, but also a coordination of the relation between human andwetlands. This project calls for a design theory of a sustainable development for the city wetlandscape. It derives from people’s respect and adaptation to the natural environment andconditions of the wetlands. Putting wetlands culture into a certain situation, and finding anexpression of its unique nature by a specific landscape design method, thus it creates aspirit-cheering space. This project also refers to the example of the Fen River wetlands gardenin Shanxi Province, studying and analyzing the current situation of the protection and planning of Fen River wetlands garden. Then with a further discussion of an ecologicalplanning and designing theory framework and its realization that suits both the ecologicalprotection and sustainable development pattern, with also the function of satisfying thedemand of relaxation, culture and education.
