In the wind pitch system, lead-acid batteries is extensive used as backuppower.As the charging power supply, the property of a battery charger has a directeffect on the service life of the battery. The charger played an important role in thepopularization and application of the battery. Aimed at developing a highly efficient,intelligent and reliable pitch system battery charger, the paper has completed thefollowing works:Firstly, according to the characteristics of the battery,the polarization andhydrolysis influence associated with the battery charge-discharge process have beenstudied,the impact on battery life associated with the battery charge process has beenqualitative analyzed. Based on the curve of Muscat and Muscat Three Laws,differentcharging strategy have been studied,advantages and disadvantages of them have beenresearched.Based on site conditions demand,constant current-constant voltage-floatcharging method has been proposed.Using PID control strategy to control theoutput,and the PID controller according to the characteristics of the battery and thecharging method has been improved.Then,round-robin mechanism to schedule the various functional modules havebeen designed.Useing of on-chip resources, output control module based on the PIDcontrol strategy has been designed.AD sampling module, fault detection module,communications module, PC monitoring and charging log saved locally and othersoftware functional modules have been designed.Last,the Testing and validation about the charger function parameters related tothe software modules have been done.The communication function of the charger andPC monitoring function has been done;the charging curve is in line with the expecteddesign,the accuracy of the output voltage and current requirements of the protocolindicator1%;fault detection system is reliable, the detection threshold is consistentwith design expectations;and the charger alse has the temperature compensationfunction.
