With the increasing complexity of radar system, development has become moredifficult, and the same requirements for radar performance testing have been increasing.The Radar Simulator plays an important role in the radar test, and becomes an importanttopic in radar domain. Marine radar is an indispensable part of the safety of vesselssailing, also need to be tested during the development process. Because of the complexand changing sea environment, the field testing process is complex and costly. Marineradar echo studies and simulations for the development of marine radar systems, signalprocessing algorithm to provide strong reference, while accelerating the developmentcycle of the marine radar, reduce test costs and complexity. Therefore, marine radarecho studies and simulations have important practical significance.This paper mainly research on the target signal, clutter and noise in the marineradar video echo. First of all, the range, azimuth, fluctuation in the target model whichis derived from radar equation is analyzed and the main factors affecting the target echoare researched. At the same time, the noise model is analyzed and simulation.Secondly, the magnitude model, the power spectrum model and the afterbackscattering coefficient model of the clutter are introduced. The main factors affectingthe characteristics of sea clutter also are analyzed. There are two commonly usedmethod of clutter simulation: ZMNL and SIRP. Based on all the above, four commonclutter distribution model are simulated with ZMNL method. At the same time, thecorrelation coefficient method for solving the clutter simulation and the space-relatedclutter simulation method are studied. Sea clutter echo signal simulation model andapproach are proposed on the basis of previous research; the results of simulation isgiven and analyzed. Rain and snow clutter echo signal also is simulated by the samemethod.Then, based on target echo, clutter and noise simulation model, giving results ofthe marine radar echo signal combine with the actual radar parameters. Echomathematical model according to the established, combined with powerful computingcapabilities of the MATLAB the echo simulation algorithm is designed. And the marine radar echo simulation software is developed by MATLAB GUI. The function of thesoftware is to generate radar echo data in different radar operating parameters, targetparameters and clutter parameters. Finally, the simulation software is tested andgenerated radar images are analyzed.
