Distribution network is an important part of the power system, as well as an important foundation of urban modernization. In the distribution network planning, how to consider both costumer demands and the long-term development, how to make reasonable and effective use of resources to achieve maximum effectiveness and how to improve the reliability of the power suply are all of great concern to programming of the distrubution grid. Therefore, studying the power system planning theory which meets the requirements of the developments are necessary, considering the reliability, security and economic factors.First, the domestic and international network developments are studied and the construction and rehabilitation of distribution network (110kV,20kV and0.4kV) and its automation are also studied in the beginning of our research. Second, the construction and management optimization of distribution network in Suzhou is investigated in this thesis. Base on the forecasting of the local loads, the power grid of Suzhou is analyzed. The methods suitable Suzhou grid planning is proposed and the principles are proposed in this paper. Third, the details of grid planning of specific zone in Suzhou is fully analyzed.Through the research of distribution planning project, the newer distribution network operation mode is proposed to enhance the distribution network reliability. Furthermore, advanced distribution network automation system is constructed in the pilot regions. The ability of monitoring and operation of the distribution network is increased and the period and amoung of loss of load are less than before. The reliability of the pilot region is improved.
