The motor shaft is one of the core components of motor. The circumstance thatthe fracture failure of the shaft results in the loss and influence of the whole motorand its related equipment occurs frequently in the engineering applications. Thus, thefailure analysis of motor shaft is proved to particularly important to the improvementof the quality of the motor and consequently that of the stability of the wholeequipment.This paper introduced the test and analysis on YKK355-4by the applicationsof the macro fracture analysis, material mechanics performance analysis, chemicalcomposition of materials analysis, microstructure analysis and metallographicanalysis and reached the macro and micro situations, various performance andparameters of this motor shaft. The analysis results can be drawn that somemechanical performance and chemical composition of materials do not reach thestandard, the welding quality of this motor shaft is below the mark and the structureof overall welding has numerous welding defects.The simulation on the welding and other loading conditions of YKK355-4motorshaft by the application of FEA software MARC obtains the stress distribution anddeformation in normal work and under the shock load. The analysis results show thatthe occurrence of shaft fracture is due to the relatively high distribution of this motorshaft’s welding residual stress and the influence of various kinds of loads in use. Inthe meanwhile, the life analysis of this motor shaft under the existing circumstancesindicates that its fatigue life is relatively short because of the influence of the highresidual stress and shock load.For the structure and process of YKK355-4motor shaft, the adjustment of somestructure and process parameters of this motor shaft by the application of FEA softwareeventually gets some better structure and process parameters, which providescorresponding technical support and theoretical bases for the production and processof the motor.
