Precast segmental bridges are widely used in transportation infrastructure abroad. Domestically, bridge segments are mainly precast by long-line method but rarely by short-line method, accordingly research of the construction technology, mounting equipment&technology of short-line precasting is insufficient for engineering application. Based on the construction of the75-m approach spans of Sutong Changjiang River Highway Bridge in Jiangsu province, aspects of precast segmental bridge configurations, mounting equipment, construction technology and quality control are studied comprehensively. The main points are generalized as follows.Ⅰ. The application of precast segmental bridges at home and abroad is reviewed with their advantages and disadvantages analyzed.Ⅱ. The configuration details of the short-line precast segmental bridges, the corresponding construction process and mounting machine assembly are studied,Ⅲ. Ansys software is applied in finite element modeling of the beam segments during design and construction to calculate the mechanical behavior and verify the safety and feasibility of the structure and details.Ⅳ. The short-line precasting and mounting technology as well as the construction quality control issues are instituted.Through the technology research, numeric analysis and practical trial, the key tec hnical problems in construction of short-line precast segmental bridges are solved suc cessfully with construction safety, quality insured and construction schedule shortened Our "Precasting with Short-line Matching Method and Erection in Air with Girder Er ection Machine for Continuous Prestressed Concrete Box Girder Segments" method h as won nationwide recognition. And the Bridge itself has won a series of domestic and international honors and awards as well as various Chinese patents, including the Lub an Awards, Zhan Tianyou Awards, First Prize for National Scientific and Technologica1Advancement, International Bridge Conference:emoji:(IBC) George S. Richardson Medal and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Outstanding Project Awa rds. It also brings considerable economical and social benefits. The achievement will be a useful reference for those similar bridges in future construction.
