Reasonable tunnel lighting is not only about the safety of these Drivers. But alsoabout as much as possible to avoid waste of energy. Highway tunnel lighting theory hasa strong application purpose and services for the Drivers in the tunnel,but Existingtheory neglects vehicle traffic law, it is clear that Existing theory can not meet with theneeds of highway tunnel lighting.This article first study on tunnel traffic flowcharacteristics and traffic behavior,on the basis of this,then study on the demand forbrightness inside the tunnel.First, the study history drawback and development trend of the tunnel lighting aresummarized, and on this basis, a new lighting theory considering the behavior of trafficin the tunnel are proposed. Traffic flow curve exists a, b, c three o’clock (correspond tothe largest traffic of the free flow,the largest traffic of overtaking state, capacity traffic).They are the inflection points of the demand of tunnel illumination brightness a pointand c point corresponding to the minimum brightness, the B point corresponding to thebrightness of the greatest demand. traffic flow characteristics of the free flow oasegment and overtaking state ab segment have been studied and this paper use themethod of probability theory to work out the traffic correspond to point a and point b ofdifferent design speed by introducing a degree of confidence, stopping sight distance.traffic of a point and b point were verified.by creating models and conducting tunnelexperiment. Work out c point traffic by considering the tunnel capacity reduction factor,Ultimately determine the scope of the different traffic flow states.With the large number of experimental data of The Merchants ChongqingCommunications Research and Design Institute, this paper propose new lightingbrightness requirements. Long tunnel lighting has two-stage settings,and propose thestandard of maintain brightness which consider new traffic composition and meetstopping sight distance, In addition, gives new regulations on the value of the brightnessreduction factor k.compare the brightness of the Basic lighing segment of stopping sightdistance of110m between the cash norm and this issue in the form of chart.
