This thesis, based on the central place theory, the point-axle exploit theory, and the cityhierarchical scale distribution theory, using qualitative and quantitive analysis methods withthe urban population data, studies the status, evolution and influencing factors of gradingscale structure of urban system in Northeast China. Then the thesis discusses the existingproblems and optimized countermeasures. The full text includes five parts. The first part introduces the research background, the theoretical basis, researchadvances at home and abroad and research programs. The second part quantitatively analyzes the characteristic of the status of the gradingscale structure of urban system in northeast in the city primacy index, the city Gini coefficient, and the rank-size rule model, using urban population data in2010. The results shows:medium and small cities scale is small in whole; weak pyramid; not obvious law of theprimate city; even rank-size,a more intermediate sequence; imbalanced city scale distribution. The third part selects the non-agricultural population data of urban area in northeast infive point-in-time (1984,1990,1996,2003and2008), and analyzes the characteristic of theevolution of the grading scale structure. The results shows that: the city primacy indexdeclined as a whole, and cities in second class strongly developed with the primacy city;urban population of each hierarchical scale fluctuated obviously but still kept a generallyuniform distribution; each hierarchical scale cities had a large development, and city scaledistribution is increasingly balanced. The forth part seeks influencing factors of hierarchical structure and analyzes the drivingmechanism. The influencing factors include four aspects such as economic factors, transportation factors, policy factors and natural factors, and the economic factors aredeterminants. The fifth part points out the problems of hierarchical structure, and analyzes thecountermeasures to optimize the hierarchical structure.
