In the modern world today, the shortage of water resources and frequent floods are increasingly serious. The traditional drainage system with the purpose of discharging rain water as soon as possible is unable to meet the needs of today’s development. Sustainable stormwater management which combines rainwater infiltration, collection, storage and purification has become a hot area of research. Urban Park is an important ecological open space. By adopting stormwater management practices, the urban park can provide multiple functions such as stormwater regulation, ecology services and recreation. The thesis introduces the development of traditional drainage system and points out that sustainable rainwater management is the trend in the future. Then the thesis describes the research progress of the stormwater management in the domestic and overseas, including the United States, Britain, Australia and Japan. And then this thesis provides an analysis of several park design projects. The thesis explains the procedures for the park planning and design strategies in detail based on the stormwater management afterwards. The procedures includes the basic data collection and analysis, stormwater management process selection, the park overall layout design and detailed design. The thesis focuses on several main procedures including rainwater infiltration and groundwater recharging, rainwater collection and sewage interception, rainwater storage and flood control, rainwater processing and purification. Finally this paper described in detail of Yingtan Liujia Lake Park planning and design process. By adopting stormwater management methods, this project transforms to an urban park with multiple functions including cleansing and storing urban stormwater, protection of native habitats, aquifer recharge, recreational use and aesthetic experience.
