With the expansion of our country’s power grid, power system monitoring andpower dispatching need to monitor a large number of electric power data, and simplydata display can’t meet the requirements of the power dispatching. Especially at thewide area measurement of power system, data from PMU is variety, huge andinformative. The data should be vividly, quickly display in real time to help operatorsdetect the problem and get state trends of the power system in time. For thecharacteristics of wide area measurement system, a visualization system for powersystem wide area measurement is designed and realized in this paper.Firstly, described the significance of the power system visualization in the powersystem dispatching, analyzed the domestic and foreign research and development trends, and then introduced the background knowledge of the power system visualization.Secondly this paper designed the framework of the visualization system for widearea measurement. Gave a detailed introduction on the function and design ideas ofdatabase module, visual editing module and data visualization module.Thirdly, designed and realized the components of the visual system in detail. Inorder to solve the problem of PMU high-speed data storage, this paper designedreal-time database for cache data. Adopted object-oriented design idea to develop visualediting module, realized the functions of electric wiring diagram draw and geographicalwiring diagram draw. Combined the SVG technology with Web technology realized thepower system data visualization in2D. Used OpenGL technology to achieve3Dvisualization of power system data, and used improved spatial interpolation algorithmand texture mapping technology to draw the equivalent of color maps and surface torealize fast dynamic visualization of the voltage and frequency distribution. Finally, the visualization system was tested. The experimental results show that thedesigned system could reflect the current state of power system in real time, which fullydemonstrates the practicability of the system.
