Transverse Flux magnetic Motor (TFM) is a kind of Axial Flux Motor which hasnew internal structure. Due to decoupled design of electric circuit and magnetic circuitin internal structure, TFM benefits a lot in energy consumption and reluctance. But thenew structure is so complicated that makes TFM costly to be manufactured. However,Switched Reluctance Machine (SRM) has simple structure and is easy to be controlled,but unlike energy-efficient TFM, it consumes more energy because of complexmagnetic path and high reluctance. Therefore, the objective of this thesis is takingadvantages of TFM and SRM to design a Transverse Flux Switched Reluctance Motor(TFSRM). In this thesis, a prototype motor of TFSRM with three-phase is designed andmanufactured. What’s more, a theory model of the prototype motor is established afteranalysis. At the same time, the servo control system is developed to control theoperation of prototype motor, and a test system is also built to test the performances ofthe prototype motor.The prototype motor can control the changes of magnetic energy, which caninteract with rotor. Base on this principle, the prototype motor use the magnetic energycontrol technology to drive the motor operating, so the prototype motor is also calledTransverse Flux Switched Magnetic Energy Machines. On the process of the prototypemotor designing, the theory model of the prototype motor is established. After that,the structural parameters and the relevant parameters of electric circuits and magneticcircuits can be calculated and analyzed. Through calculation, some numerical values ofstructural parameters such as dimension, technological parameters, winding turns andpoles of motor can be made certain after calculating. The calculation methods ofelectrical and magnetic parameters can also be worked out, such as inductance,back-EMF, permeability potential and torque density. Meanwhile, the effect of poles onperformance is identified. In addition, a servo control system is designed and developedto control the operation of prototype motor. The servo control system is made up ofhardware system and software system. The hardware system includes main circuit, controller logic circuit, power drive circuit and power supply circuit; Software controlstrategy is based on APC. Based on these works, a test system is built for testing theprototype motor and its control system. The test system contains cSPACE simulationsystem and MTS-I motor testing system. The testing includes the test of startupcharacteristic, rotate speed characteristic, torque characteristic and load characteristic.The result of test shows the feasibility and stability of the prototype motor.TFSMEM has been optimized on the structure because of the application ofmagnetic energy control technology. So the TFSMEM has the advantages of TFM andalso has the simple structure like SRM. The measured results verify the perfectperformances of the designed prototype and its control system. The results of testing onprototype and control system show that the design is feasible.
