The crane is commonly known as lorry-mounted crane that is installed on the truck chassis. It is widely used in various kinds of production practice because of the flexible motion, high integrated degree, large power, good stability, convenient operation, etc.The skeleton symbol crane, which is mainly composed of boom, base and column was studied in this paper. The crane boom and support device as an important part of plays a critical role. Nowdays, most of people only study on boom design optimization and performance analysis, less for lightweight optimization design and analysis.Lightweight design is the main trend to auto industry development in the world, especially to reduce the weight of the crane, the enterprise and individuals of cost would be saved in long-term. The purpose of research in this paper is to lightweight design crane by using modern design method.This article from the introduction to the basic idea of finite element analysis illustrates the finite element analysis software ANSYS Workbench, and the function of CAD software Pro/E and its main features. Emphatically the structure strenghth analysis of the specific process for carne was introduced by application of ANSYS Workbench. The3D modeling of crane was established by using Pro/E software. Structure weight as the optimization goal and strength, stiffness as constraint conditions the crane was optimization designed by using ANSYS software.In this paper, with the help of Pro/E and ANSYS Workbench software and its extension modules, the conclusions of this study are as follows:(1)A three-dimensional model of the truck crane is established and assembly by the three-dimensional drawing software Pro/E. By using this method, the parameterized modeling is established.(2)After the part model and the assembly model being stored as.x_t format files, the finite element analysis is done by using ANSYS Workbench. All of these will improve the efficiency of the modeling.(3)Analysis of stress and strain on the existing simple type truck crane is done in ANSYS Workbench, and the shape optimization is done in Finder Shape. When keeping the overall structure unchanged, the volume should be designed as mini as possible. Try the best to find out the removed area, and make the truck crane lightweight.(4)The research and analysis of the truck crane makes sure the body lightweighted, which provides a theoretical basis for the design and improvement of a crane, and has value of theoretical research and practical application.
