The tailings dam is the largest environmental projects in mining enterprises. The tailingsdam is the main structures of the tailings. The tailings, suggests that it is useless tailings stackemissions or industrial waste residue from ore concentrator screening useful as huge open-air"warehouse". Tailings pond often combined with favorable terrain valley surroundedTaniguchi construction of embankment dams with local materials, is both an artificially highof the mudslides dangerous source, and is a source of environmental pollution. Tailings werelisted as one of the sources of major danger. In recent decades, at home and abroad tailingsdam construction accident cases have occurred, resulting in a serious disaster, causing heavylosses to the personal and property safety of the people. Based on the Lianping CityJiangwukeng Tailings Dam engineering project, this paper does research on the technicalproblems encountered in analysis, the special dam stability safety evaluation, to helpenterprises to inspect the tailings dam’s potential pitfalls and drainage system, and to proposeappropriate technical and management measures, as a follow-up basis to project’sheightening.The general analysis method in engineering design is to take a representativecross-section of the tailings pond, and build a two-dimensional model for analysis. Thetailings stater dam is a high dam of30m in height, accumulation of the dam height of112.2m,the total dam up to142.2m. In order to guarantee the safety of the tailings dam, this paper’sresearch includes on not only two-dimensional modeling analysis, and also three-dimensionalmodeling and stress-strain analysis,and the safety analysis, more accurate to the actual statusof the project. This paper takes the comparative analysis of the tailings dam state oftwo-dimensional and three-dimensional the state, comprehensively evaluate the differencebetween them, providing the basis for the design of the later works.In this paper, the researches of stability and drainage of the high dam are mainly basedon numerical analysis method. Based on the results, the paper comes out with the followingunderstanding:(1) Through the software,Seepage calculation for the the tailings draws that the tailingsseepage flow and escape point elevation and the saturation line significantly reduce as theupstream water level decreases.The length of the dry beach should be long enough, and thewater level should be below the coarse sand of the upper tail.(2)According to the analysis of stress and strain of Tailings dam, the calculations showthat Jiangwukeng Tailings is running in good condition, safe and reliable.(3) Through the establishment of a three-dimensional model, the calculated results showthat the calculation results of the two-dimensional model is correr, demonstrating the acceptable accuracy and applicability of the calculation results of the two-dimensional modelin this project. For this non-classical plane problem that the dam height is less than the length,the establishment of a two-dimensional model of the project dam can be a reflection of thesituation of the project.From this paper, we get a simple index, the ratio of length to height,if the index is more than10, the model can be simplified from three-dimentional totwo-dimentional with acceptable accuracy and applicability.
