City Plaza concentratedly reflects a city’shistorical and cultural heritage and its own charm, is also an important carrier of theregional characteristics. In recent years, a construction boom of City Plaza is set off. Butbecause of the strong impact of Western culture, the characteristics of each city graduallydisappeared under the wave of global urbanization. With600years of history and culture,Tianjin is changing in an advanced speed, as a port city of North China. This ancient butalso young city is encountered the same problem in the face of development opportunities.Nowadays, with the information flow breaking the traditional time and space, perhaps weshould understand the regional characteristics of a city from a new perspective. Rooted inthe regional characteristics, which is not just needed to create a certain kind of style, ideasand methods to create the regional characteristics is more important.Based on the concepts and basic characteristics of the regional characteristics, thisarticle summarized the basic elements contained in geographical characteristics. Furthertheoretical basis is provided for the study of Tianjin city’s character. From analysis of twoperspective contained in regional characteristics (natural environment and humanenvironment), factors that influence construction of City Plaza are summarized. At thesame time, analysis of style and feature is carried out in urban space that has beencompleted in Tianjin, and some background theory is laid for case study of City Plaza.Through research of Tianjin City Square, analysis and quality evaluation of TianjinCity Square is taken out. Through case analysis to select Plaza with higher integratedquality, and problems in construction of Tianjin City Plaza are summarized. Practicalexperience basis is provided for the creation method of Tianjin City Square constructionwith regional characteristics in the next step. Combined with city characteristics and plazaconstruction case, regional features in City Plaza are studied: analysis can reflect theelements and design basic principles of regional characteristics in the City Square in theprocess of evaluating the quality of Tianjin City Square; to explore and analyses theguiding principles and the main idea of geographical features the City Square from thelevel of methodology.Finally, the combination of the planning status of the current Tianjin City Plaza,Tianjin City Plaza geographical characteristics of the concrete to create the basic theoryderived in accordance with the preceding analysis the relevant geographical characteristicsPlaza awareness and planning further summarized. Hope to create a certain reference valuefor the future of the regional characteristics of the Tianjin city square in order to set anexample for other coastal cities and immigrant cities which have the common public spaceconstruction, in the mean while, to add distinctive common public space with improvingour country’s cultural soft power for better China.
