There are a lot of risk factors in tunnel engineering, and in front of the tunnel face the geological condition is more complex. So it is becoming an indispensable safety process to ascertain the engineering geology conditions in the front of the tunnel face during the tunnel construction. Tunnel geological forecasting in advance also has been suggested as a specification, becoming an important part of the tunnel construction process. Using the tunnel geological forecast in advance of the Expressway of Guang Le in Ying De as the research example, I will discuss the methods widely used in advance geological prediction and the comprehensive prediction method used in Zhong Shan Ding tunnel.This paper first introduces the principles of Ground Penetrating Radar, tunnel seismic wave reflection method and advanced geological drilling. The Tunnel Seismic Prediction and Tunnel Geophysics Prediction are the detection means commonly used with tunnel seismic wave reflection method and they are used to introduce the principle of seismic wave reflection. Combining the engineering project in the expressway of Guang Le in Ying De, I studied the GPR, the TSP, the TGP and the geological drilling and how they are used in an actual application, and summarize the interpretation criteria of the typical image and the advantages and disadvantages of various detection methods in the application of an advance geological forecast. Finally a comprehensive detection method is put forward as a necessity in the application in advance geological forecast.According to the comprehensive advanced geological prediction of karst caves in Zhong Shan Ding tunnel, I further discuss the respective application of the GPR, TGP, advance geological drilling and geological surveying to the geological condition when sued together. Comprehensive forecast results coincided basically with the actual situation after the excavation suggesting the necessity and high efficiency of comprehensive detection application in advance geological forecasts.Practice has shown that using the comprehensive advanced geological prediction method not only improves the accuracy of the advance geological forecast, but speeds up the tunnel construction progress, and at the same time it offers a meaningful reference for the development of the advanced geological forecast for the tunnel.
