Both manufacturing and measuring equipment of high precision are needed inmanufacturing high quality products. The coordinate measuring machine (CMM) isgradually becoming the leading measuring equipment of machinery manufacturingindustry especially the realization of quality control in automation production. Thetraditional way of measurement, i.e. the methods that mainly relaying on self-learning ormanual operation, has been restricting the functions of CMM. Researches on intelligentCMM that could adapt to modern factory has become one of the key technologies inmanufacturing industry. Intelligent CMM is a kind of CMM that can realize informationautomation and intelligent decision, make measurement strategy of part model accordingto the given task and program measurement automatically.This dissertation is a sub-subject of “Research of key technologies on generating andextracting detection information of complex parts and intelligent three coordinatesmeasuring”(project number:51075119), which is financially supported by the NationalNatural Science Foundation of China. The paper has mainly accomplished the followingworks:1) divided the path planning into global and local path planning according toresearches on selection of probe, decisions of probe angle and planes to which thegeometric features to be measured attached.2) grouped the geometric features to bemeasured and established constraint model of global path planning, which described theconstraint conditions of ordering measurement of geometric features intuitively, accordingto the types of probe and the principles of minimum transform of probe angle.3)sequenced and optimized the geometric features to be measured in one group based onconstraint model presented before by using genetic algorithm.Key technologies such as measurement rules, constraint modeling, measurementsequencing and optimizing and collision checking in global path planning have beenstudied by applying genetic algorithm to path planning in this paper in connection with thesets of geometric features to be measured and construction of inspection information of3D part model. These works paved the way for the development of path planning andautomatic obstacle-avoiding of intelligent CMM.
