Academy is a place of Confucian scholars" gathered, lectures, library, skills and recreations in Early China, which is different from official and private education institutions. Hunan province is one of developed areas of the academy in history; Hunan has two of the Four Academy, named Yuelu and Shigu. Academy has been experienced1000years, it began in Tang dynasty, prosperity in the Song dynasty, reached its peak in Ming and Qing dynasty, started to evolve at the end of Qng dynasty. As the materialized carrier of academy culture, academy formed plane layout mainly with teaching, worship and collection of "three major careers" and strong sense of ritual features in the long-term development. Moreover, in the site of selection and landscape management, it highlighted the coordinated unification between man, nature and landscape, and pursued the ideal of "nature and humanity". It is not only a landscape type with cultural connotation, unique artistic features and aesthetic style, also an important part of the Chinese traditional garden system.Based on some relevant literature, this paper makes a brief description of the origin and development of China’s academy, academy culture and academy garden, of Hunan regional geographical historical overview and Hunan culture, takes Hunan region’s academy as study. Firstly, this paper made a detailed introduction on the origin and development of Hunan academy and rheological. Then take the existing typical instance as study, on the basis of the first-hand information through researches, this thesis analyzed some landscape elements of Hunan academy, site type and its influencing factors, regional and historical style of the academy building, academy functional zoning, landscape space types and characteristics, landscape space sequence and processing technique, the cultural connotations and forms, and structure decoration and the local characteristics of plant landscape. Through analysis, we can explore that address choosing of Hunan academy take Feng Shui culture as the guide, based on the beautiful environment, influence of scholars hermit culture; Hunan academy landscape space layout is restricted by geographical condition, the overall pattern of etiquette and music supplement each other,and functional requirements. At the same time, by using the method of horizontal and vertical comparison to Hunan academy with Hunan areas of the temple garden, private garden and Yuelu academy of Hunan academy with Four Academy of Bailudong academy, Songyang academy, Yingtian academy multi-angle comparison, analysis its similarities and differences. Finally, in the study of Hunan academy landscape space in detail, we can explore that Hunan academy contained a concept of culture traced back in the landscape space, focused the view of nature on landscape and scenes concept of space, and we can grasp a clear of the development of track and exploring its inherent laws. The research results show that, as a branch of system of the national academy, Hunan academy landscape reflects both college commonality characteristics, and shows the distinctive geographical features and unique cultural connotation. This paper intends to explore Huxiang culture which is the essence of traditional culture in Hunan, to make efforts for the inheritance and development of academy culture and landscape, to provide enlightenment for building with regional characteristics of modern landscape.
