As typical representatives of Oriental garden art, Chinese and Japanese classicalgardening art have made great influence in the development and progress of the world’sgardening art. Although both of them belong to the oriental garden system, originallythe essence of Chinese classical garden was a model for the Japanese gardens to copy,and both of their techniques skeleton-ed with mountains and water, in the long-termevolution process, under the influence of different natural environment and socialculture, habits and customs, aesthetic temperament and interest, etc, the Japanese garden,absorbing foreign advanced culture and combining with the development of their ownconditions, gradually forms its own style of gardening and landscape characteristics andhas produced its gardening types such as pure land type, dry landscape type, tea gardentype, etc.During the Edo period, with social development Japan’s landscape experiencedunprecedented development, especially the private gardens represented by daimyogarden, which combined all the gardening essence of Japan, and reached the Japaneselandscape height period; Similarly, in the same historical period, facing Japan with eachother across the sea, China was in the late Ming dynasty to the Qing dynasty, privategardens, no matter from the quantity or quality had reached the unprecedentedprosperity, especially the Jiangnan private gardens even became a royal gardenlandscape reference model for learning. First, this thesis explores the historicaldevelopment and the original relations of classical garden between the two countriesand thus has a clear grasp of the two countries’ cultural context from the perspective ofcomparison. Next, it analyzes the developing backgrounds of private gardens in the twoseparate prosperous periods from the aspects of natural environment (geographicalposition, topography, climate, hydrology, etc.) and the humanities environment (political,economic, culture, education, etc.) to further analyze the differences of gardening artbetween the two countries from gardening theme, conception, idea, aesthetics,techniques, etc. and summarizes their respective gardening features and artistic values.Finally, this thesis turns to the modern gardening art heritage under the influence ofclassical gardens of the two countries. It analyzes the evolution of gardeningbackground and the gardening art, and through analyzing the development of theChinese and Japanese modern landscapes, summarizes their separate advantages and disadvantages. After comparison and reflection, it sums up the problems anddeficiencies in China’s modern gardens under the function of traditional culture andforeign culture. And it tries to learn from Japan’s thoughts and methods of modernlandscape inheriting from classical gardens and explores design methods of Chinesemodern landscape inheriting classical gardens culture under the background of new era,so as to play some enlightenment and guidance role in the development of Chinesemodern landscape architecture. |
