Recently, water resource pollution incidents, especially water quality pollutionoccurred frequently. Municipal water supply security has become an importantcomponent of the city safety system and draws more concerns. Getting safe and cleandrinking water becomes one of the most concerning and urgent issues. Waterdistribution system is one of the important parts of municipal water supply, and itsmajor function is transporting clean water to users in different regions. It will causehuge damages once the water distribution system suffered from water pollutionbecause of its huge pipe network and complex topology structure. These damages, including the threat of human health, economic losses of water supply interruptions, costs for pollutant water retreatment and drop of public trust, will influence the steadyof the social stabilization. Therefore, it is meaningful to assess the pollution risk ofurban water distribution system.Firstly, water pollution happened in water distribution system was definite in thispaper. Risk assessment model based on abrupt water pollution was set up, in additionthe acquirements of model parameter and simulate tools was analyzedcomprehensively.Secondly, the APE zone’s urban water distribution system in North China wasselected as the case study region. A set of risk assessment method for urban waterdistribution system faced to pollution threat was put forward, which was based on riskassessment theory. According to the established risk assessment method, pollutants’reaction in and out of water distribution system was analyzed. The data acquiringmethod of uncertainty factors was provided, and the data was matched to deduce itseffects to the assessment result. Finally, pollution mass load in each node was calculated by simulating thepollutants’ spread. The data was applied to draw the zone influence map, and itspotential impact range was confirmed. Exposure index method was introduced toindicate system’s average reaction to the pollution. Sensitivity analysis was analyzedby Monte Carlo method, and each uncertainty factor’s sensitivity was ranked to assessits contribution to the results.According to this paper, a risk assessment method of water distribution systembased on abrupt pollution was built, and it can provide reference for the securityupgrade of urban water distribution system.
