Historical buildings are an important carrier of China’s history and culture. Thereis high historical and cultural value. Due to the construction of the age, and humanfactors, most of the buildings with history have been subject to varying degrees ofdamage. In order that they are protected effectively, in-depth analysis of buildingswith history should be conducted to form a complete theoretical system.In this paper, historical timber buildings were analyzed and the effect onstructures of ShengQi and CeJiao was the focus. Compared to the same type modernstructures, some buildings with history’s different points existed in their structuralmeasures. Studying these structural measures would be both to learn more about thecharacteristics of the buildings with history, but also to provide guidance andreference to modern architectural design. ShengQi and CeJiao was structural measuresof historical timber buildings. In this paper, finite element models of Doule Temple’sShanmen and Kwanyin pavilion were established in both cases of the structures withShengQi and CeJiao and without ShengQi and CeJiao by using the Ansys analysissoftware. Characteristics of structures were analyzed. By contrast, the effect ofShengQi and CeJiao on structures’ stiffness and natural frequency and the effect ofShengQi and CeJiao on structures’ Seismic performance were analyzed. Analysisshowed that the effect of ShengQi and CeJiao on structures’ natural frequency wasinconspicuous. ShengQi and CeJiao could significantly increase the stiffness ofstructures. ShengQi and CeJiao almost didn’t affect the base shear and overturningmoment of structures in earthquake, but it could significantly reduce the amplitude ofstructures under earthquake.In this paper, masonry block material of buildings with history was analyzed. Thecourse of development of China’s masonry brick was discussed. The volume density,the saturated water absorption, the drying shrinkage, thermal expansion coefficient,compressive strength, elastic modulus, Poisson’s ratio of the bricks of Shengxifu,Wanghailou church and Zizhulin church, were also measured by experiment. Then areference was provided for the analysis and maintenance of buildings with history.From the experimental results, the brick compressive strength of the relatively old ageof the buildings, such as Wanghailou church and Zizhulin church, had a great variability. The masonry strength design value of their brickwork walls couldn’t becalculated by the existing codes. In this paper, the formulas to calculate the masonrystrength design value were provided by means of mathematical derivation.
