In recent decades, steel plate shear wall(SPSW), which is widely considered asa new type of lateral load-resisting component in structure, prevails in regions whereonce experienced severe earthquake across North America and Japan. Because ofexcellent ductility and other advantages, steel plate shear wall is populared by manycivil engineerers, the excellent earthquake-resisitng capability of steel plate shearwall has been proved by many exisiting cases. Dissipating earthquake-caused energyby developing plastic deformation of steel plate wall to minimize the earthquakedamage, which is quite different from traditional concrete shear wall, enable vastapplication of steel plate shear wall become reality. The paper mainly concernultimate load carrying capacity and seismic behavior of SPSW.Focuse on Chinese Standard, meanwhile by referencing other standards aborad,this paper started from single steel plate wall including only steel plate and adjacentframe members, mainly study on ultimate load carrying capacity and seismicbehavior of steel plate shear wall. With the adaption of ANSYS eigen bulking module,analysis on factors which could influense buckling load are carry out. In themeanwhile, certain conclusions are drawn regarding static shear-loading capacity, thedifferences between thin plate wall and thick plate wall are also revealed.Response of steel plate shear wall structure under frequent earthquake isconducted by Midas/Gen solfware. Adapting response spectrem analysis andtime-history method, entire structure dynamic response are studied, especially for theload-carrying attribute of adjacent frame member and interaction between framecomponents and steel plate wall. Evaluation on load-resisting, deformation andseismic behavior of structure inditates that steel plate shear wall fulfill requiredperformace.Analysis on response of steel plate shear wall under severe earthquake isconducted by SAP2000. The introduction of new layed shell element makessimulation in geometry and material nonlinear behavior of shear wall possible. Staticnonlinear analysis and nonlinear time-history analysis reveals weakness in structureand attributes of plastic behavior in steel plate wall.
