Generator is the main equipment in the power system. The fault or abnormal generatordirectly affects the quality of electric energy and influences the safe operation of power system.In order to accurate analysis generator fault or abnormal specific reason, each power parametervalue must be provided when the generator is being in trouble,thus the fault recorder emerges.The fault recorder provides direct basis for the analysis of the cause of the malfunction. At thesame time,the device fully monitors the operational status of the generator. Therefore, it isnecessary to develop a high reliability and adaptable fault record device. Then it has greatpractical significance to the safe operation of generator. Against this background, this article ismainly carried out and completed the following work.First, this article states the development of the fault recorder at home and abroad. Theessay analysis the performance and requirement of the fault recorder. The core is STMicroelectronics’ STM32F4series of32-bit microcontroller, the design of the fault recorder isintroduced.Secondly, the peripheral circuits of the microcontroller (STM32F4IGT6), data acquisitioncircuits, data storage circuit and the communication circuit are completed in the hardwaredesign. Main peripheral circuit contains debugging circuit, clock circuit and reset circuit. Dataacquisition circuit is used to collect stator voltage, stator current, frequency, excitation voltageand excitation current. The data storage circuit of F-RAM and external expansion SD card isdevised to meet the need of storing data. Communication circuit includes RS-485, CAN,Ethernet and USB communication mode to meet the fault recorder to the need of network.Thirdly, the overall software process is designed in the software design. Program includesdata collection, calculation, fault recording and communication.Finally, software application is compiled, and the unit of major hardware and softwarefunctionality are debugged.As a result, the module of developed fault recorder meets designspecifications and it is reliable.
