With the further development of the offshore development, more and more big sizeseawall engineering such as land reclamation, seaport construction, breakwater projects, etc are almost done by built the building on soft clay. The security and stability duringwhole construction period are the priority problems for every construction unit, supervisionand proprietor. Because of this background, the paper based on the basis of in situobservation system, by combination of the measured data, several studies from differentaspects were done:①! The composition of in situ observation system was described completely. Thecontents, instruments and drilling burying technique for in situ observation werestudied based on the system, the limitation of the layered settlement monitoring, thesoil horizontal displacement monitoring, the surface subsidence monitoring and thePore water pressure change monitoring were analyzed and the technical wasimproved.②Combined with the settlement theory both domestic and overseas, the dam settlement, degree of consolidation, computational formula for settling velocity andcomputational method for coefficient of consolidation were studied. And thesimplified expressions which get from the research were used to control theconstruction load and reduce the settling velocity.③Combined with the actual in-situ monitoring data, by using hyperbolic, exponentiallaw, quadratic equations the settlement prediction of each section, the final settlementof the foundation and degree of consolidation were calculated. Experimental resultsshowed that the data which calculated by hyperbolic method and index method wasslightly smaller than the observed sedimentation predicted data, but the consolidationprocess in the foundation of the prediction was almost the same with the observationdata. However, the measured data for the projections settlement changes calculate was chosen indeed strictly, with the reason of dams are generally graded load, Singlecurve fitting was hard to reflect the settlement trends accurately. So the prediction forsettlement need to combined with graded fitting and curve fitting.
