Electric vehicle is generally considered to be the future direction of thedevelopment of automobile with new power system. The vehicle driven by in-wheelmotor, with its unique advantages, will become an important field of research anddevelopment of electric vehicle.In this dissertation, the research field and key problems of electric wheel are firstlydiscussed. Based on the constraints of wheel’s inner space and dynamic performance, anew scheme of electric wheel where motor is rigid connected is proposed for citydriving conditions. The difficult problem of spatial layout of the electric wheel has beensolved via the detail structural design. The detail works are as followed:Firstly, the analysis of installation space of electric motor for front and rear wheelis performed, and the driving method is determined. The dynamic performance ofelectric motors is calculated based on vehicle’s performance requirement. Then thedesign index and constraints are provided.Secondly,the connection scheme of the motor, hub bearing, brake disc andresolver is analyzed. The cooling method of motor is determined. And the whole layoutof the electric wheel is provided.Finally, according to the general scheme of electric wheel, the detail structures anddimensions of main parts are designed and calculated via CAD method. In order toverify the cooling channel design, the fluent of coolant is analyzed via FEM. The staticstructural analysis of brake disc, caliper bracket and wheel shaft which is under threetypical load conditions are performed. And the free modal of brake disc is also analyzed.The interference fit between knuckle and wheel shaft is analyzed. Through multi-bodysimulation, the interference of brake disc and lower control arm is revealed and asolution is provided and verified by simulation.
