The botanical garden, which derived from the exploitation of plant species andappreciation of their beauties by human beings, has been thriving along with thedevelopment of social economy and the urban afforestation. As a special kind ofclassification of the whole botanical garden family, the study on the college botanicalgarden is a relatively weak part. Usually, this kind of botanical garden is arranged in onecentralized place with a small area, a few plant species and a relatively fixed group oftourists. Along with the transition of the diversification of education mode as well as thepromotion of the construction of the campus in recent years, the construction of collegebotanical garden has also been carried forward with the orientation changing fromsingle function to diversified functions. This has raised new ideas on the construction ofcollege botanical garden and further exploration on its planning and design. Theconstruction of ‘garden within garden’ and ‘union of two gardens’ just adapts to thedevelopment trend of the current college botanical garden. This paper analyses the typesand characteristics of college botanical garden, proposes the difficulties of collegebotanical garden construction in our country based on the current situation andcharacteristics at home and abroad as well as aiming at the construction method of‘garden within garden’ and ‘union of two gardens’, and probes into the causes of someof the problems and puts forward the main points and ideas of college botanical gardenconstruction planning and design in combination with case studies both at home andabroad. In the end of the paper, the author comes up with the countermeasures of thisplanning based on the college botanical garden planning practice of ChongqingUniversity Huxi Campus to validate the previous planning ideas.This paper is built up by the logical deduction of‘argument-analysis-exploration-practice-meditation’, the main content of whichincludes the introduction, the five chapters of the main body and the conclusion.Chapter One is the introduction, namely the argument, which introduces theresearch background, presents the scope of the research, elucidates the research purposeand significance, summarize the research review on college botanical garden planningat home and abroad, illustrates the research strategy, and lays out the researchframework.Chapter Two is a fundamental summary of ‘analysis’ and the problem proposing part, which sums up the main characteristics and types of college botanical gardenaccording to the relevant theoretical works, and analyzes of the main difficulties andadvantages of college botanical garden construction based on the construction situationand development trend at home and abroad.Chapter Three is the resolution of problems of the ‘analysis’, which analyzes thecauses of the problems on the difficulties of college botanical garden construction,further improves the analysis of the study with theories, as well as provides basis for thefollowing ‘exploration’ and ‘practice’ parts.Chapter Four is the ‘exploration’ part, which summarizes the main points ofcollege botanical garden planning and design combining the understanding of collegebotanical garden and related cases at home and abroad.Chapter Five is the practice part of the project. On the basis of the exploration ofthe college botanical garden of Chongqing University Huxi Campus, this part integratesthe theory and the pros and cons of the current situation of the project on the one handand reflects the practice results to the cognition and theory to provide examples for the‘exploration’ part on the other.Chapter Six is the ‘consideration’ part, in which the author discusses several pointson college botanical garden planning combining the previous study and practice.The Conclusion part proposes the creative points and the further development ofcollege botanical garden based on a summary of the main body.
