Wide area measurement system (WAMS) based on synchronized phasor measurement provides possible applications for large interconnected power systems in realization distributed synchronized phasor measurement, dynamic security monitoring and online security analysis and wide area stability control, which is then one of the frontiers in development of power system.Some concept and application of WAMS in power system and CC-2000A system with combination of WAMS with EMS (Energy management system) were described, respectively. The system effectively meets the double needs of dispatchers’real-time monitoring of power grid and online analyzing process of disturbance by integrating WAMS with EMS man machine interface and comprehensively using the advantages of network integrity of EMS data and process integrity of WAMS dynamic data, which provides accurate and intuitive means for dynamic properties, tie-line fluctuation and control effects as well as monitoring performance and evaluation of units grid-connected. Two important applications of WAMS, low frequency fluctuation and primary frequency regulation, were discussed by combing them with actual situation of Liaoning grid. The thesis was finally summarized with prospect of the future research.
