The Folding Stool Research

The article selects the Chinese traditional furniture–folding stool as a case study.By combining the theories and methods of comprehensive art and ergonomics, thisarticle analyzes folding stool’s historical origin, structure, and technology, etc., fromthe perspective of the design of art.The article is divided into four chapters. The first chapter, according to materialobject and text data, it studies folding stool’s historical origin, change of name,development of shape, and classification. This part also according to the differentcharacteristics of shape and the different users tries to classify.The second chapter, this article analyzes folding stool’s foldable structure,mortise and tenon joint structure, decorative parts, and decorative features. In addition,the article resolves folding stool’s modernization of production process by way ofcase study.The third chapter, the content of the section is the ergonomic analysis of foldingstool. The chapter summarizes folding stool’s reasonable structure design andscientific size design, through analyzing the dimensions of witch folding stool’s seatheight, seat depth, seat width, backrest and armrests.The fourth chapter, the content of the section is that folding stool plays animportant role in the daily lifestyle, and promotes the transition from sitting on thefloor to sitting in a chair. This part also analyzes the changes of folding stool’sfunction.
