Studies On The Innovative Application Of Materials During Costume Design

Entering into the21st century, along with sustained social and economic development, especially in the rapid development of modern technology and under the background of the arrival of information society, people’s material living standards continue to improve while the demand for spiritual civilization increased accordingly. At the supply and demand levels of costume design, it mainly lies in two sides. On the one hand, consumers have a higher demand for clothing, not only on the functional requirements of higher demand for apparel but also clothing replacement rate becomes faster. On the other hand, to the fashion designers who are trying to satisfy consumer demand for personalized clothing, they need to design many clothes according to various tastes. Fashion clothing not only have novel personality style, but also put forward higher requirements for the clothing material to meet the apparel fashion trends, highlight the personality and taste as well as satisfy the requirements for comfort and health.Currently, some basic elements such as the style and shape of costume design seem to be stabilized. More and more clothing designers seek to design style and color based on the characteristics of new clothing materials. As a basis for the design, clothing material affects the ability of designers to innovate as well as other design elements. In order to achieve a wide range of costume design requirements, it requires innovating clothing materials, mastering modern fashion design concepts and methods of processing clothing materials, optimizing change of clothing materials to obtain the perfect design effect. Thus, innovation on clothing materials is the key importance of leading the fashion trend.This subject aimed to study the meaning of innovative applications in clothing materials under multidisciplinary knowledge and practical experience of the designer himself. Based on the review of the research literature, through specific case studies and comparative analysis of artistic expression among different material, using psychology theory, aesthetic theory and other theories, with the combination of design practice case studies, this study elaborated the meaning and significance of material innovation from many aspects. This research paper includes the following sections:1) the background of innovative applications of materials in costume design, the meaning and purpose of analysis and research on the current status of research and development on innovative applications of materials, as well as the study methods and content;2) explore the meaning and role of clothing materials and elaborate the classification and application of clothing materials;3) analyze the innovative applications of costume materials on clothing design through case studies, prove the effectiveness of innovative applications and methods by using design case.Conclusion: For the designer, the innovative applications of clothing materials are very significant. It will not only allow designers not to be limited by the materials and play better subjective to enhance the artistic charm of clothing, but also show the designer’s ultimate artistic effects and design.
