Due to geographical, climatic conditions and historical reasons, although there is the Yellow River, Lanzhou is still a city of water scarcity. With economic developing and population increasing, human obtains more and more goods and services from the aquatic ecosystem, while its natural capital stock is continuously reduced. Thus, in-depth research and analysis of aquatic ecosystem service value on people’s size, has very important significance. This paper analyzes the basic theory of ecosystem services, research priorities, trends and its value content. And the article references Costanza et al analytical framework of estimating the value of ecosystem service. Considering the quantity, quality and distribution of Lanzhou surface water, its ecosystem service is divided into three direct services, including the supply of water, aquatic product and hydroelectric power, and eight indirect services, including regulating flood, accumulation of water, sediment transport, water purification, air purification, climate regulation, recreation and maintenance of biological diversity. Comprehensive use of various evaluation methods, including market value method, shadow engineering method, travel cost method and contingent valuation method, the sum of Lanzhou surface water ecosystem service value is33.56452billion yuan, accounting2.468%of Lanzhou’s GDP in2011. After a detailed analysis of accounting results, the theory of ecosystem service is extended, and focus on specific aspects closely related to people’s actual producing and living, including ecological resources of capitalization, green GDP, aquatic ecosystem restoration and construction of the ecological society.
