The large gyratory crusher is a necessary equipment in the mining industry, it’soften used in the primary crushing stage of the ore. The crushing cavity determines thekey working parameters of the gyratory crusher, it’s the place where breakage behaviorhappens. With the improvement of the industry requirements in product quality andworking state, the original gyratory crusher cavity can’t meet the requirements. In thispaper, the basic cavity of the gyratory crusher was designed and built up as the subjectrequired, the main working parameters were studied, and the fundamental cavity of thegyratory crusher was improved and optimized. The main contents are as follows:1. Drew the basic curve of the gyratory crusher cavity based on the principle ofworking process and crushing of the gyratory crusher, and created the cavity by thecurve.2. Analyzed the motion characteristics of the material flow in the crusher cavitybased on the basic gyratory crusher cavity; located the choke point of the cavity of thegyratory crusher; established the rotational speed of the mantle theoretical model and theproduction capacity model; studied the factors affecting the production capacity with thecavity fixed.3. Proposed the layering fragmentation characteristics based on the theory ofinterparticle breakage, the basic cavity of the crusher and the motion characteristics of themantle. Calculated the product size distribution based on the Population Balance Model,the feed conditions and the layering fragmentation characteristics; obtained the crushingforce through the analysis of the compression ratio of each broken layer and the layeringfragmentation characteristics.4. Gyratory crusher interparticle breakage effect was tested by using the fixed-massprinciple. The problems and drawbacks of the basic cavity of gyratory crusher wereanalyzed, and according to the gyratory crusher productivity, product size distributionand the crushing force calculation model, combined with fixed-mass principle the basiccavity of gyratory crusher was improved by using main goal of optimization method. The main working parameters of the original gyratory crusher were compared with the mainworking parameters of gyratory crusher after optimization. The solid model of gyratorycrusher cavity after optimization was established, and the calculation results ofproduction capacity was verified by using the discrete element method simulation.
