VOCs are the precursor of PM2.5. Exhaust gas treatment has caused extensive attention since the gas from industrial process typically containing VOCs is harmful to the environment. In recent years, a series of relevant policies and standards have been developed to strengthen the VOCs pollution prevention. The characteristics and treatments of exhaust gas of different industries must be investigated since its composition, concentration, volume and other characteristics vary greatly. The five main polluted industry trades—synthetic leather, packaging and printing, varnished wire, rubber products and the spray coating profession of automobile industries—were investigated. The result showed environmental pollution caused by these industries cannot be neglected though they have made a significant contribution to economic growth. The source and the characteristics of VOCs exhaust gas have been studied. It was found that the composition of exhaust gas is extremely complex. The development tendency of source control in the industry had been elaborated.Exhaust gas of rolling and pressure and VOCs in workshop environment of a rubber products company were analyzed. Main contaminants of exhaust gas from rolling and pressure included non-methane hydrocarbon, stink, particles, oily substances, etc. The absorption concentration-combustion hyphenated technology was chosen due to the related policies and the actual situation of the company. Heat recovery was achieved by optimizing the project, in order to save energy and reduce pollution. According to the need of project, related equipments and materials were selected and designed.Photocatalysis was studied by lab experiment for VOCs in workshop environment. BiVO4was chosen due to its property of visible light responding. Toluene was chosen as a model pollutant to evaluate the removal capacity. Catalysts doped with5%CuO exhibited optimal visible-light photocatalytic activity. Therefore, catalysts were characterized. The underlying reasons behind catalysts activity were explored. The special morphology of catalysts and the heterojunction between CuO and BiV04were conceded as the most important factors. The prevention and treatment of VOCs exhaust gas of industry are extremely urgent. It has an important value for thorough investigation on the characteristics of exhaust gas from different industries and targeted selection, optimization, development of treatment techniques for pollutant reduction.
