In recent years, catastrophic fire have occurred, which uses a lot ofcombustible materials for decoration, is one of the reasons that lead to a viciousfire accident. Epoxy resin has excellent electrical insulating properties andphysical and mechanical properties, share for more than30%of the resin used indaily life. However, the limited oxygen index of epoxy resin is19.8andnecessary to be flame retardant modified.This paper is based on neopentyl glycol, phosphorus oxychloride, melaminefor the synthesis of a new phosphorus-containing intumescent flameretardant(Neopentyl glycol phosphate melamine salt, NPM) and preparaephosphorus-containing flame retardant epoxy potting material using thiscompound. During the preparation of neopentyl glycol phosphate melamine salt(NPM), we determined the optimum conditions, it is: the reaction temperaturewas90℃,system pH6-7, phosphorus oxychloride dropwise acceleration is2-4drops/sec.When an epoxy used in an amount of10g,4,4-two-diaminodiphenylsulfone (DDS) used in an amount of22wt%, CTBN used in an amount of15wt%,benzoyl peroxide (BPO) used in amount of0.6wt%, tanδ is0.0054, ρv is19.3×1013 m, ε is3.44. In the mechanical testing experiments,adding flameretardants improved the mechanical properties,NPM increased by18.27%,Al(OH)3increased by16.3%. In the Retardant performance test and TG test, wedetermined that the two flame retardants to achieve the best flame-retardant effect,add the amount (volume fraction) and char yield: NPM flame retardant epoxyresin, added in an amount of30%, limiting oxygen index (LOI) of34, residual carbon rate of40.8%at800℃; flameretardant epoxy resin of the Al(OH)3, thegreater the added amount of flame retardant the better the effect, the additionamount of30%, limiting oxygen index (LOI) of32, of the residual carbon rate of34.5%at800℃. When comparing the two, NPM retardant epoxy resin has abetter flame retardant property and these three great point: add a little amount,no black smoke and high carbon residue rate.
