Abstract:The face gear pairs have been used in power transmission system extensively with the advantages including the possibility of split of torque and the reduction of weight. The research of the generation and manufacturing of the face gear pairs is relatively rare in our country. It is essential to measure the profile of teeth for obtaining then evaluating the manufacturing error of face gear. The measuring standard of the manufacturing error of face gear doesn’t exist and the relevant study needs to be done. In order to solve this situation, the present paper measures and values the tooth profile deviation and tooth pitch deviation applying the coordinates measuring machine, and the corresponding compensation algorithm is studied according to the real metrical data. A data processing software is developed with the VB programming language based on the data measurement software in the purpose of disposing the data and evaluating the error of face gear.The main contents of this paper are as follows:1. Tooth surface equation of modified face gear is deduced and the3D geometric model is constructed. The equations of parabolic rack cutter, gear cutter and tooth surface are formulated, the discrete points of tooth surface are calculated and three-dimensional model are proposed.2. Measurement of tooth pitch deviation of face gear is performed. The rule and compensation algorithm is investigated based on the real metrical data of face gear, the curves of single tooth pitch deviation and cumulative pitch deviation fitting the tooth surface characteristics are illustrated. The legendre polynomial expansion is used to describe the tooth surface of face gear. The minimum number of the measured points is obtained according to the features of the error, the curved surface considering the tooth pitch deviation are generated after measuring the real tooth surface and the tooth pitch deviation is described accurately.3. Measurement of tooth profile deviation of face gear is performed. The area of measurement and the number of points needed to be measured are studied according to the characteristics of theorical tooth surface of face gear. The relative location of the generalized theoretical coordinate and measuring coordinate are considered totally. The deviation surface is illustrated based on the definition of the tooth pitch deviation and the manufacturing of tooth is evaluated.4. A data processing software is developed based on the PCDMIS measurement program. The compensation algorithm and application approach are integrated in the software. The curves of deviation and database text can be outputted quickly, visually and automatically. Chart62, table10, references65.
