The purpose of design is to meet people’s needs. With the improvement of the livingstandard, the costumers’ attention to the knitting products is much more devoted. However,the market competition is fierce. Though we have much of different commodities, it still can’tsatisfy people’s consumption demands. The key isuue for product sales and brand upgrade isto effectively combine the costumers’ demands with the way women knitting dress design. Inview of this, the discussion in this paper of how to effectively design and use the ethnicelements in women knitting wear based on the Value Opportunity mode has a vitalsignificance.We may find samples of the way ethnic elements use in domestic knitting products. Butthose products are often unsalable. It is largely relevant to blindly copy the excellent designaboard or to do the design only follow the designer’s personal preference. There still can’tfind a systematic way to usefully combine the product promotion with the design to make thecommercial value of the product maximum.Therefore, this topic starts from the introduce ofthe concept of Value Opportunity. Then summing up a new product development mode callediNPD. Secondly it talks about the features of women knitting wear and the way ethnicelements express on it. Finally, through the classification of the VOs, it explores out theinspiration for ethnic elements’ design in women knitting wear from three aspects.One isinfluence of life style, the other two are features and ergonomic. The effective combination ofwomen knitting wear products’ value standard to the methods of product-design will not onlyimprove the value of ethnic elements’ application but also have a positive guiding to the brandfurther construction.Based on the theoretical research above, I use the method of iNPD into women knittingwear design project of Jiangsu Setsail Co., LTD. I systematically analyze the gap of productopportunity and do a lot of research through the web and field investigation. Then I selecthundreds of women knitting wear products from some famous brands over the last two yearsto take a sampling comparision. Then I find out a effective way that can combine the ethnicelements design with the market demand. Finally, I am recognized by my tutor and thecompany for deigning a series women kniting wear products with high commercial value.This topic summarizes a more useful product development mode guided by ValueOpportunity during the era of consumption culture. And we can use the mode to direct theethnic elements design effectively. My aim is to build a theoretical system to help developingproducts both commercial and beautiful. It may break the previous knitting wear designlimitation and put people needs first. Finally integrate the product market with the brandupgrading.
