In past decades, large amounts of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs)were produced and used in China. These abandoned OCP manufacturer sites havebecome high-risk areas scattering in the country. Organochlorine pesticide as the POPspollutants that our country had a large number of production and used, the pollution ofits production site survey can provide some reference for the assessment of theenvironmental safety of the organochlorine pesticides. After analyzing theorganochlorine pesticides manufacturing enterprises’ producing history and site status inChina, two typical manufacturing enterprises were selected for sampling. The one isChongqing Pesticide Factory that had producted a lot of HCH and DDT insecticides, theother is Taicang Pesticide Factory that had producted a large number of chlordane andendosulfan. Not only the factory site was studied, but also the surrounding area.Threetypes of environmental samples were collected for testing that is soil, plants and animals.The residual contaminants and migration characteristics of soil, plants and animails inthe site were studied, the corresponding of residual in plants and soil was analized, andthe correlation between OCPs of soil and TOC was discussed.The main results of research were shown as follows:(1)Inside the Chongqing Pesticide Factory, concentrations of ΣHCHs and ΣDDTsin the soil samples ranged from3.89to13385.78ng/g and22.74to11186.10ng/g,respectively. The results showed that HCH and DDT pollutions were serious in surfacesoils and the carcinogenic risk indexes higher than the standard recommended by someresearch institutions, although the concentration of pollutants were lower than that insome previous reported pesticide factories in China. Of particular note, the relativelyhigher levels of HCHs and DDTs were investigated in the soils near the factory. Within2000m from the factory, the carcinogenic risk indexes of HCH pollution in soils wereout of acceptable value. About of DDT, the cancer risks for children were also unacceptable in soils <400m farther away from the plant. Moreover, with increasingdistance from the manufacturing facility, concentrations of HCH and DDT in soildecreased with the power function in the study. The correlation between HCHs, DDTsof soil and TOC in it is not significant. Concentrations of ΣHCHs and ΣDDTs in thepacking grass samples ranged from19.45to982.60ng/g and10.94to11125.91ng/g,respectively. The correlation between it and the concentrations of ΣHCHs and ΣDDTsin the soil was not significant. And that, vegetables, insects, birds and poultry werepolluted to different levels of organochlorine pesticide contamination. Except p, pˊ-DDD and o, pˊ-DDT were not detected in individual plants and animals samples, fourisomers of HCH and six isomers of DDT were all detected in other samples.(2) Inside the Taicang Pesticide Factory, concentrations of chlordane andendosulfan in the soil samples ranged from0.23to8.97ng/g and0.55to11.66ng/g,respectively. The pollution situation is moderate. Chlordane and endosulfanconcentration of the factory surrounding soil is not too high, and with increasingdistance from the manufacturing facility, concentrations of chlordane and endosulfan insoil decreased with the power function in the study. The correlation between chlordane,endosulfan in the soil and TOC of the soil was also not significant, maybe it’s becauseof exchanging between pollutants in the soil and atmosphere isn’t equilibrium. Overall,the concentrations of chlordane in the plant samples corresponding soil within200m ofthe factory is higher than outside200m plant samples corresponding soil, but thecorrelation between chlordane and endosulfan of plants and the pollutants of soil is notsigcificant. The vegetables, insects and poultries within200m of the factory werepolluted by chlordane and endosulfan, CC, TC, alpha-endosulfan, beta-endosulfan andendosulfan sulfate in plant and animal samples are all detected.
