In recent years, as the emission of the small particle from the industrial productionprocess and the daily life of the human, particulate matter pollution becomes a majorenvironmental problem. Usually, the harm of the particle pollution on human health can beprevent by two methods, which is the control of the emission from the source of theparticulate matter pollution and the control of the particle numbers in our livingenvironment. For the above two means, the fibrous filter had been developed to capture theparticulate matter. The fibrous filter, which is consisted by many disorganized fibers, is a complex object, which makes the overall efficiency of the fibrous filter is too difficult to solve. In order tostudy the overall efficiency of the filter, it is general to make certain assumptions andsimplifications. Generally, the single fiber is selected as the research object, and considersevery filter mechanism respectively, which makes the filtration efficiency simple. Therefore, this article will study the interception efficiency of single fiber in the condition of potentialflow, specifically as follows:Firstly, due to the complexity of the filter, we generally select the classic single-fiberfiltration model to discuss the collection of each filter mechanism. Generally, the filtrationefficiency can be expressed by a function of the parameters of the dispersed particles, thedispersion of the fluid medium and the filter material.Secondly, the particulate matter deposited on single fiber surface consists of twoprocesses, which are the transportation and the deposit of the particle. The transportation ofthe particles is determined by the flow field around the single fiber. Based on the classicalconformal transformation, the Zhukovsky conversion, the complex potential of the ellipsecan be derived by the complex potential of circle. Then, according to the theorem of thecomplex potential, we can get the stream function and the potential function of the ellipse. Lastly, based on the definition of the interception efficiency and the stream function ofthe ellipse, we can get the interception efficiency of the elliptical fiber. And we discuss theinfluences of various parameters on the interception efficiency of the elliptical fiber. In summary, according to the flow field around an elliptical fiber, which is derivedfrom the flow field around a cylindrical fiber of the classic filtration theory, and thedefinition of the interception efficiency, we can get the interception efficiency of theelliptical fiber. The research can significantly improve the collection efficiency of thefibrous filter.
