Costume is an important material in the production and life of human beings; itplays most rules in the social life and become an indispensible part. It is an effectivecarrier of national unique culture, what is more, is indispensible information in folkresearch. Throughout the gallery of history, Chinese traditional costume becomes aunique symbol of the nation. With the continuous development of national history, ithas formed the excellent culture of a national characteristic.For thousands of years, Dong’s dress has formed a relatively unified model. Withthe development of society, Guizhou has deepened the association with everywhere,expanded communication with other national. Its economics and culture willinevitably suffer from large impacts of foreign culture. This produced tremendouseffects to the inheritance and development of traditional Dong’s dress. TraditionalDong’dress has its own way of inheritance, but the change of social environment andthe impact of foreign culture, make the inheritance of Dong’dress become moreurgent. The influence of social modernization and economic globalization, theaccelerated disappear of traditional culture, these all present a more severe test for themission of protecting national traditional culture. In front of the commodity economy,the national costume and technique face the danger of continuity and fault. Thegradually decline and the accelerating demise of national culture in minoritynationality areas. In the pursuit of economic interests, at the same time, how to protectDong’s costume heritage that formed thousands of years has become the urgentproblem needed to resolve to those workers that protecting national cultural heritage.We must further study the history and origin of Dong’dress, find the change way ofDong’dress. Only in this way can protect and inherit traditional Dong’dress, toachieve the win-win situation of gaining economic benefits and preserving nationalcultural property.Based on the perspectives of apparel sociology, this paper investigated featuresand survival condition of costume by on-the-spot investigation in Liping county, Jinping county, Tianzhu county and Rongjiang county of Dong nationality area ofGuizhou province. From four aspects of material, style, decoration and function toanalysis the transition of route in the modern society of Dong’s traditional dress, findcharacteristics and the facing problems, put forward to thinking about inheritancemechanism and protection and development strategy of culture of Dong traditionalcostume.
