With the accelerated pace of life, the young generation often have little time for adecent meal but to rely on fast food due to their busy schedule of study or work. Thefast food, a large proportion of which is the western food, is convenient, quick andpopular. However, it isn’t good for our body. Long-term consumption will lead to poordietary structure and unbalanced nutrition. At the same time, under the guidance ofcurrent dietary therapy of "porridge", the young people are turning to whole grains andbegin to focus on nutritional supplements and regulation.Northern Shaanxi is rich in whole grains due to adequate light and heat, largetemperature difference between day and night and abundant soil nutrients. Grains arenutritious and good for health. As early as in ancient Chinese medicine, there is a sayingthat one kind of grains is good for one internal organ. The young people still have littleknowledge of grains’ role in preserving their health. Moreover, the packaging of suchproducts can hardly appeal to their eyes. Appropriate packaging design is the bestadvertising of the product. How to design the packaging of grains that are attractive tothe young people, consistent with their eating habits and nutritious is a subject of greatsignificance for the design of northern Shaanxi farm produce.To such end, this paper focuses on understanding the health benefits and nutritiousproperties of whole grains in northern Shaanxi from the points of view of packagingdesign, fast-food culture, health science, design aesthetics, design psychology andconsumer psychology. Considering the characteristics and needs of the young people,packaging material should be selected and designed to have folkloric and cartoon appearance. The packaging should list the differences of grains in nutrition and theirtargeted efficacies. Based on their varied functions, the products should haveindependent packs that are enough for one person for one time. The packaging is furtherdistinguished by colors of the four seasons to provide specific health diet. Afterlow-temperature baking and grinding into powders without puffing, the raw materials ofnorthern Shaanxi whole grains can be served immediately after being brewed by boilingwater, which is simple and convenient. At the same time of fitting in the fast-faced lifeof the young people, this kind of fast food can also bring them nutrition and health.The packaging of northern Shaanxi whole grains is characterized for its innovationin packaging and nourishing to improve the attractiveness of farm produce to the youngpeople to buy, which will promote the development of the whole grains in northernShaanxi and advocate the local unique culture of China in the mean time.
