Graphene is a monolayer of two-dimensional carbon material and has broad application foreground in composites and energy storage elements for its excellent electrical, mechanical, and thermal properties. Therefore, researchers have developed several ways to synthesize graphene, such as mechanical stripping, redox and vapor deposition. The results shows that redox could be use to prepare layer graphene sheet with ideal structure, because it has the properties of simple equipment, simple operation and easy adjusting the reaction conditions. However, it has two prominent problem of redox:one is lower synthesis yield; the other is the he degree of reduction is difficult to control. This paper is focus on the two issues mentioning above.Firstly, infrared spectroscopy, XRD, Raman spectroscopy, AFM are adapted to characterized graphene, GO and GR in order to analyze their structure. Meanwhile, oxidation and reduction processes of GR synthesis is studied through liquid redox method. By changing the reaction temperature, reaction time, oxidizing agent amount, reduction agent amount in the two processes, the critical process affecting GR yield is researched. The results shows reaction temperature of the high temperature section, reaction time in the medium temperature section, H2SO4amount, reaction time in the high temperature section are the key factor to effect GR yield. The reduction agent amount in the reduction process, reduction temperature and reaction time all have influence on GR yield. In order to avoiding GR agglomeration, reduction degree should be maintained.Secondly, GR was thermal reducted under600℃,800℃,1000℃. Through several tests (FT-IR, XPS, XRD, Raman spectroscopy, AFM, SEM), a conclusion was drawn that, when thermal reduction was set at800℃,30s, oxygen functional groups on the surface of GR disappeared and the surface maintains a flat surface morphology, a reasonable lamellar morphology GR was obtained. Over high temperature and over long time treatment caused the GR surface folded and flawed.Lastly, based on the above research, GR/epoxy resin composite material was synthesized. By studying its tensile strength, elongation at break, fracture toughness, dynamic mechanical analysis and heat resistance analysis, a conclusion can be drawn that liquid phase reduction GR/epoxy resin composite material has excellent toughness, but strength is lower; thermal reduction GR could closely integrated with epoxy molecules, thus improve both toughness and strength. Meanwhile, GR with higher reduction degree and appropriate lamellar area can improve tensile strength and fracture toughness of epoxy composite material.In this paper, synthesis of GR and its application in epoxy composite material were studied. This study has some practical significance on effective synthesis of GR, strengthening and toughening of epoxy composite material. At the same time, it provides some theoretical guidance on GR functional synthesis and provide basis for effective application in different area, therefore it is valuable in actual research.
