Epoxy resin shows many good properties including good adhesion, heat resistance, corrosion resistance and small shrinkage. But epoxy resin is brittle and its electrical conductivity is poor after curing. Consider its excellent electrical conductivity and mechanical properties, graphene/epoxy resin composite is prepared with solution blending method.In this experiment, graphene is obtained with improved method of Hummers. However, graphene is difficult to soluble in any solvents, which hinder the preparation of graphene composites. In order to make graphene disperse in ethanol, salicylic acid, triton-X100and pyrogallol are chosen as the dispersion agent to prepare the composite materials.UV-vis analysis shows that salicylic acid is the best one to make graphene disperse in ethanol. The results of FT-IR spectrum indicate that salicylic acid and Pyrogallol react with epoxy and form the aliphatic ether bond. The results of mechanical tensile tests and electrical conductivity tests show that the graphene/epoxy resin composite has excellent mechanical properties and electrical conductivity. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis was carried out on the composite materials from microscopic to explain the increase of mechanical properties of graphene composites.
