As an important ornament, hat plays a significant role in the history of humancivilization. The folk hat of Kashgar not only presents the development of humancivilization, but also shows different characteristics in territories, countries, andcultures. People in Kashgar would like wear this kind of folk hat in anywhere. Thefolk hat is an indispensible part in the lives of Uighur people, for it is not just anornament or but a necessity for social contact, visit and festival. So the folk hatenjoys a special place in the ethnic custom of Uighur people.The research objective of this thesis is the folk hat of Kashgar. Adopted withthe historical method, the literature method and the case study, this thesis tries toprove three distinctive characteristics of the folk hat: regional, cultural connotationand aesthetics. By conducting a case study, the author intends to explore itsclassification and designation, the vignette style and the symbolic meaning ofdecorative color.This thesis can be divided into six parts:Chapter one is the introduction, the author would make a brief introduction ofthe research objectives, significance, content and methodology of the thesis in thisChapter. Meanwhile, the implication and limitation will also be discussed.In Chapter two, the author tries to discuss the origination and development ofthe folk hat of Uighur people. Combined with the influences of the factors of naturalenvironment and history, the author intends to infer the evolution process of itsappearance, decorative pattern and color.In Chapter three, the author would make a classification of the art patterntowards the Uighur folk hat, which makes the development clearly. Besides, differenttypes of the folk hats will be introduced respectively.In Chapter four, the craftsmanship and embroidery of the folk hat will beelaborated. The author tries to draw a whole picture of the raw material, theprocedure and embroidery techniques of the hat. Meanwhile, the author wouldillustrate the interrelationship between the craftsmanship and embroidery.In Chapter five, by conducting a detailed analysis of the decoration, ornamentand color of the folk hat, the plentiful decorative features of the hat will be alsopresented.Chapter six is the conclusion part of the whole thesis.By conducting the research, the author tries to explore the folk craftsmanshipof Uighurs, and intends to promote the values of Uighur culture.
