| In this paper, the chopped glass fiber and glass fiber fabric reinforcedpolydicyclopentadiene(PDCPD) composites had been prepared by blendingpolymerization in situ. The surfaces of chopped glass fiber and glass fiber fabric weremodified by high temperature treatment, alkali etching and coupling agent treatment,respectively, and the results were characterized by scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and FT-IR.The glass fiber reinforced PDCPD composites, binary composite materials of glassfiber fabric/PDCPD and ternary composite materials of glass fiber/styrene-butadienerubber (SBR)/PDCPD were prepared by the method of react injection molding (RIM).The morphology and mechanical properties of the composites were characterized bySEM, plastic pendulum impact testing machine, tensile testing machine, universaltesting and the Shore Durometer, respectively. At the same time, the suitablepreparation conditions of industrial RIM-PDCPD were explored through continuousexperiments and optimize the process parameters for production.The results of SEM showed that there were attachments on the surface of themodified glass fibers through the surface modification and the specific surface area ofthe modified glass fiber were not smooth, which made it well dispersed in the DCPD.According to the mechanical property results of the glass fiber reinforced PDCPDcomposites, it can be known that the mechanical property of the composites wereincreased with increasing the fiber content increased, and the length of glass fibereffected the mechanical properties of the composites. The mechanical properties of theglass fiber reinforced PDCPD composites reached the best, when the glass fiber andglass fiber fabric were modified by coupling agent. When the content of glass fiberwas2.0Wt%, the mechanical properties of glass fiber reinforced PDCPD were thebest. When the content of glass fiber fabric was27.7Wt%, the mechanical properties of the PDCPD composites was best. When the content of SBR was1.5Wt%, themechanical properties of glass fiber/SBR/PDCPD composites were the best.Combining the actual production situation, the production technology andformula of glass fiber reinforced PDCPD composites were explored, which wassuitable for the industrial production process. Mole ratio of DCPD and tungsten andalkylaluminium was1050:1:20and nitrogen pressure was0.2-0.4MPa. The speed ofagitator was200-350r/min and the temperature of the DCPD was35-40oC. Thepressure of the whole reactor was kept over0.1MPa and the whole reaction was keptin strictly anaerobic and well devoid of water conditions. |
