China has a large quantity of machine tools which has poor quality, backward controlsystem and low production efficiency. Purchasing new numerical control machine tool iscostly and not conform to China’s national conditions. Therefore, transforming theexisting machine tools with numerical control technology is a good way. Transformationof numerical control machine tools containes unlimited business opportunities.The main content of this paper is numerical control system transformation to thetraditional radial drilling machine. The process of transformation is mainly divided intotwo aspects, including the transformation of the mechanical part and the motion controlsystem part.In mechanical transformation, we have increased the mechanical structure of the NCrotary table to the traditional radial drilling machine. At the same time, we havetransformed the rocker and pillar into the mechanical structure of servo motor to driverotation, designed the transmission portion of horizontal movement of the spindle box androcker lifting movement. Such transformation can greatly improve the processingcapacity of the machine, and achieve the positioning and processing of the vertical holeof curved surface part.In electrical control, we`ve transformed the electrical circuit of original radialdrilling machine, calculated and selected the servo motor which is used in the horizontaland vertical drive. Finally, we choose Siemens`s SIMOSTEP stepping motor as the servomotor, and the sinatic t-cpu cpu315t-2dp in Germany Siemens numerical control systemas our digital control system.This paper gives detailed analysis on the influence that NC feed servo system has onmachine tool performance, shows the theoretical analysis and proposes the correspondingimprovements.In addition, we make overall design for PLC in this paper, describing it from bothhardware and software respectively. About hardware, according to the controlrequirements of the machine tool, we determined the composition of the hardware of PLC with STEP-7softare in hardware configuration and process configuration. As tosoftware, we completed designing the stepping motor control program, etc.
